Item Description

Reserve yourself a spot for a week's worth of Ashtanga Vinyasa essentials from February 13 to 17, 2017, with teacher Richard Freeman in Boulder.

This 5-day Essentials Immersion course presents a comprehensive overview of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system of yoga, a vibrant and transformative form of the classical Indian philosophical tradition.

Morning asana sessions will develop the internal forms of the practice, focusing on the art of threading postures together along the thread of the breath

Prana is the pattern of the inner breath governing inhaling, and apana is the pattern governing exhaling. Linking these two patterns together internally is the foundation of yoga posture and pranayama and it is the heart of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system. This class will be an energetic exploration of the integrated whole body patterns that are a reflection of this union of opposites.

Participants will work with the internal alignment mirrored in the pelvic floor as it moves around the central axis of the body. Using these patterns combined with integrated muscular patterns within the hamstrings, spine, shoulders and arms, they will construct a practice that draws them deep into the core of the body and facilitates a new freedom and ease within the postures.

Richard Freeman began the study of yoga in 1968 at the Chicago Zen Center while earning an MA in philosophy. He currently travels throughout the world teaching yoga, philosophy and meditation. Freeman is the founder of the Yoga Workshop in Boulder, Colorado where he teaches and lives with his family.
