Item Description

A painting by Sumatran Orangutan Nias (painting in white) and Western Lowland Gorillas Curtis (painting in purple) & Charlie (painting in black).

Curtis and Charlie are Western Lowland Gorillas living at the Denver Zoo. Curtis is 21 years old and weighs 420 pounds while Charlie is 20 years old and weighs 415 pounds. Curtis and Charlie enjoy lots of attention from their caregivers including training sessions for voluntary heart ultrasounds and painting various items. This is the first mask the boys have painted on. These boys also like to search their outdoor habitat for hidden food items, break apart frozen juice popsicles, nap in nests made of hay and straw, and an occasional round of play together as brothers do. Their diet consists mostly of lettuces, with small amounts of vegetables, fruit, and biscuits. Favorite treats for these two are popcorn, cereals, pastas, and peanuts.

Nias is a Sumatran Orangutan who is a proud mother to our rambunctious 6 year old named Hesty. Nias is 28 years old. She is a playful mother, often seen in the dayroom wrestling under a sheet with her daughter. Nias enjoys her outdoor habitat, searching for popcorn in the grass or making snowballs in the winter to bring back indoors to enjoy. Nias also enjoys painting canvas and ornaments, and this is her first mask to paint as well. Favorite treats for Nias are almonds, walnuts and pecans.
