“A Child at Play”
An interesting journey began for me while attending a local university. The final project in my photography class was to take a few “extraordinarily strong photos.” As “my” thoughts took me to one place, the “spirit within” guided me to another. This journey took me to the truth of my desires and a child’s playground became my canvas. The camera danced in my hands as I began looking about, seeing precisely the lines and shapes I wanted to capture. I was inspired as ideas freely exploded within, providing me with the power to create.
My collection of photos, shot at various playgrounds, is called “A Child at Play.” As you look at these photos, you might ask, “Where is the child?” I will tell you, “Look behind the camera. You will find her there.”
I express who I am and what I love to do by creating. As my eye moves about my surroundings, I consciously become aware of images that would nicely fit within the parameters of my camera lens. I create because of how it makes me feel…confident, free, amazed, playful, spirited, calm, encouraged, passionate, inspired and fascinated. The act of creating guides my mind into truth, as I am limitless to exhibit expression, exploring the uniqueness of who I was created to be.
“As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson.
My name is Eileen Sumerlin and I am an artist.
