Item Description
This mask was painted by Tujoh and Hadiah. Tujoh is a Bornean male orangutan born on April 30, 1994. He is the largest male orangutan at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo weighing in at 310 pounds. Hadiah is a Bornean female orangutan born on June 8, 1996. She was raised by humans for the first 11 months of life then reintroduced to her mother thereafter.
Orangutans use tools in a lot of ways. Once when it was hailing outside, one of them put a black rubber feed tub on his back like a turtle shell. That way, he could eat the hail but not get hit with it.
Tujoh and Hadiah really like interacting with guests at the windows, so if you have been here on a cold day and orangutans were hanging out with you, it was probably these 2.
Tujoh and Hadiah are the parents of baby Ember!
Tujoh likes to sleep with a blanket or sheet every night. Even cuter because he’s by far our largest orangutan.
Hadiah is a super great mom to Ember. She is very watchful and protective. When they go to bed at night they put their faces really close together, and Hadiah gently grooms and strokes Ember’s face until Ember falls asleep.
