Item Description
Larged Autographed memorabilia of Photos with Engraved plaques of Hank Aaron and Eddie Mattews from the Braves. The frame is still in original protective wrapping.
Hank Aaron and Eddie Matthews are considered the best duo of hitters on the same team ever and that’s including the impressive Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. You are bidding on an autographed photo of the two of them that is nicely framed. Eddie Matthews broke into the major leagues in 1952 and hit 25 home runs that year, including three in one game. As one of 1954's superstars in American sports, Mathews was chosen for the cover of the first-ever issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. Around this time, Ty Cobb said of Mathews: "I've only known three or four perfect swings in my time. This lad has one of them.” When Matthews retired in 1968 he had hit 512 home runs and ranked 6th among
all home run hitters. He was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1978. Between 1954 and 1966 he and Braves teammate Hank Aaron hit 863 home runs (Aaron 442, Mathews 421), moving ahead of the Yankees duo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig as the all-time leaders in major league history. Hank Aaron, often called Hammerin’ Hank ended his career with 755 homers. Aaron himself and his whole family was threatened in 1973 as he approached Babe Ruth’s record of 714 home runs. He received death threats and home made fire bombs were thrown into his house that year. He actually thought about quitting baseball to protect his family, but finally decide if he did that he would be letting the racism win. Hank finally did
break Ruth’s home run record in April of 1974. He was elected into the Hall of Fame with an amazing 97+% in 1982.
