"Reflections" - 36" x 24" framed oil painting
Oil on linen on board. I make my own panels from a Belgian linen glued on to un-tempered masonite. I have been showing on Canyon Road since 2001, with solo shows every year since the first. I now show at Sage Creek Gallery on Canyon Road.
"Reflections" is a favorite of both Michael (my husband) and mine. Such a simple, quiet expression of a singular moment that somehow becomes timeless. I fell in love with the depth of colors reflecting off of the metal platter and couldn't resist playing with the reflections of the warm fire light next to cool daylight. This is one of my favorite things to paint, the juxtaposition of warm fire light and cool north light. I paint in a nearly dark studio and the still life and easel are set up under a north facing clerestory window about 13 feet high. A wide beam of cool, north light illuminates both the still life and my painting. This gives me that quality of light that my paintings are all about. That turquoise Japanese vase and pink cherry blossoms were all I had to add to make the image feel complete to me.
