Item Description

Bhairava with Candle Burner

16" x 12" artist print on canvas

Murtis are forms that are created to embody the divine. They are statues, images, carvings, or idols that represent Vedic deities. In this collection of still life paintings I have attempted to capture the eternal beauty of several murtis that originated in Nepal.

This image of Bhairava is from a wood carving that was used as a temple ornament. It is approximately 350 years old.

It was originally mounted in a sort of "false window" looking out as a protection for the temple. These images are thought to subdue and divert any negative influences away from the places of worship.

Many who view Douglas' work report inner spiritual transformation and energetic healing.

Douglas was gifted with the ability to paint late in life following a meditation experience of Divine Mother dancing in his heart lotus. Douglas explains, "Divine Mother is the artist. I just try to be alert to what she is telling me, and not get in the way. The less the ego is involved, the better I can express her Light and Silence in my paintings. And of course, it helps to keep improving my painting skills."
