JCCCNC Board of Directors' Personal Wine Collection
Our Board of Directors certainly love their wines, and we asked them to donate a bottle or two of their personal favorites. A case of 12 bottles, this special collection would make a very nice start, or addition, to your own wine cellar. These bottles are good to drink now, but will be fantastic if you have the patience to hold onto them for a few years. Here is what you can expect in this year's selection:
JCCCNC Board of Director Jon Shindo
2013 Charles Krug Generations
Wine Spectator 90 Points. Well-proportioned, tight and smoky, with a firm, structured beam of licorice and blackberry-tinged fruit. Ends with fine-grained tannins and a long, clean finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030.
JCCCNC Board of Director Myron Okada
2007 Hafner Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Young, pretty. Violets, carpaccio, blackberries, cigar box, nutmeg, sweet vanilla, dark chocolate. Soft, supple, rich mid-palate, dark chocolate finish.
JCCCNC Board of Director Rumi Okabe
2007 Louis Jadot Pommard
Wine Spectator 88 Points. Spice accents the herb and cherry flavors in this open red. Though still firm, this is balanced and should come around in a year or so. Moderate length. Best from 2012 through 2017.
JCCCNC Board of Director Kaz Maniwa
2011 Liparita Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
JCCCNC Board of Director Terry Akiyama
2013 Black Stallion Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine & Spirits 92 Points. The Indelicato Family makes this wine at their Napa Valley property using grapes from Oak Knoll, Rutherford, Atlas Peak and Oakville. It shows the quality of the 2013 vintage in deep, plummy flavors and warm notes of exotic spice. The tannins add umami breadth with scents of black mushrooms and earth. Ready to enjoy with braised lamb.
JCCCNC Board of Director Kyle Tatsumoto
2011 Willams Selyem Sonoma Coast Terre de Promissio Pinot Noir
Wine Spectator 88 Points. Very delicate and pleasantly earthy, with focused and persistent notes of dried herb, crushed rock and red berry fruit. Drink now through 2018.
JCCCNC Board of Director Robert Sakai
2007 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine Enthusiast 89 Points. This vintage has a dark ruby color and a complex nose of blackberry fruit, violet, sandalwood, and dark chocolate. This wine has a great balanced attack, a seamless mid-palate and a long moderately tannic finish with echoes of berry fruit. This balanced wine will improve through 2034 given proper cellaring.
JCCCNC Board of Director Robert Sakai
2015 Long Meadow Ranch Pinot Gris
Palish yellow green in color, the nose is elegant and fresh, floral and spicy, and an intriguing introduction to the wine. The palate is concentrated, combining pear and apple with vivid apricot. It has a wonderful freshness paired with a real depth of flavors, and the finish is long and slightly peppery.
JCCCNC Board of Director Donna Kimura
2012 Gramercy Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine Advocate 94 Points. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is most likely the greatest vintage of this cuvee to date. Full-bodied, ripe, layered and yet still elegant and beautifully balanced, it offers classic currants, black raspberry, graphite, lead pencil and cedar aromas and flavors. This beauty will have two decades of longevity.
JCCCNC Board of Director Marilyn Oshiro
2013 Patz & Hall Chenoweth Ranch Pinot Noir
Wine Enthusiast 94 Points. This lush, voluptuous and tenderly textured wine is still grippy in its youth. Dark cherry, cranberry and pomegranate round out the layers of juicy fruit, buoyed by rocky minerality, measured oak and firm tannins. Medium bodied, it can be enjoyed with or without a meal. Drink now through 2022.
JCCCNC Board of Director Sheryln Chew
2012 Beaulieu Vineyards The Agreement Red Blend
A bold, yet approachable wine brimming with black cherry, briary blackberry and juicy plum character, and hints of licorice, black pepper and sweet pipe tobacco. The full-bodied flavors enlivened by balanced acidity and structured with firm tannins stand up to grilled red meats, hearty soups, stews and pasta, and aged cheese.
JCCCNC Board of Director Donna Kotake
2012 Thomas Fogarty Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
This bottle beautifully reflects this nearly perfect growing season. The clarity of this red fruited vintage is highly apparent in both the aromatics and mouth. Full of energy, the flavors and texture of this wine are unmistakably Santa Cruz Mountains in origin with cherry fruit highlighted by spice, mineral and green tea like accents. It shoud drink well over the mid term, 4-7 years at minimum.
