Item Description
Whitey Herzog was both a Major League Baseball player and Manager. He broke in with the old Washington Senators in 1956 and spent his entire playing career within the American League ending his play with the Detroit Tigers in 1963. But his real influence was as a Manager. In fact he is quoted as saying, "Baseball has been good to me since I quit trying to play it."
Herzog had his greatest success as a Manager in Kansas City, where he won three straight American League Western division titles from 1976 to 1978, and in St. Louis, where he won the 1982 World Series and the National League Pennant in 1985 and 1987. Herzog was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.

• Sporting News Sportsman of the Year (1982)
