Item Description
Mixed media monotype collage
28" x 24"
Joanne Cornell has been creating monotypes for 15 years. She has studied at the MFA, the Danforth Museum, Mass College of Art, and for many years with Gema Phillips in her Brookline Studio. Recently, her work has appeared in juried shows at Brickbottom and Zullo Galleries. Joanne serves on the Board of the Monotype Guild of New England and donates art to non-profits through The Art Connection, Boston, MA.
In the collage “Fragments,” Joanne Cornell printed the underlying monotype using oil paint and broken pieces of plexiglass. The printed shapes were enhanced with watercolors. The upper layer is made up of pieces from similarly printed and enhanced monotypes that are suspended above the first layer making the finished piece slightly 3-dimensional.
