Item Description
Cast in fashion metal with 22K gold finish. Signed by the artist. Together with a signed photograph of the bronze sculptures by Nancy Schön.
Nancy Schön is a Boston treasure with her most loved and revered pieces being Make Way for Ducklings in Boston Garden and the Tortoise and Hare in Copley Square, which was created as a tribute to worldwide runners who have participated in the Boston Marathon. Her sculptures have thrilled all of us for years.
The artist’s statement about the Tortoise and Hare sculpture: “I wanted to create a sculpture that would attract children, yet have meaning for the (Marathon.) The fable of the Tortoise and Hare by Aesop was the perfect metaphor for the wide variety of people from all over the world who participate in the (race), people of all ages, shapes, and sizes, many of whom are proud just to walk over the finish line. These miniature sculptures were created exclusively for all those who are inspired by the powerful lesson the tortoise teaches.”
Schön’s jewelry is based on her sculpture and is cast in fashion metal with a 22K gold finish, signed in the process by the artist.
