A tribute lithograph done in 1995, the closing year of the old Boston Garden. A light and shadow reminiscence of Boston’s grand arena for sports and concerts by James Hobin, a multi-talented, multi-faceted artist. He has dedicated his art to communities in Boston with public schools, subway stations, and community projects as recipients of his murals. James paints and makes prints of familiar Boston scenes. As journalist Nelson Carter has acutely observed, “In James Hobin’s eyes, and on his easel, Boston itself is the real work of art.”

Hobin works with schools throughout the Boston community encouraging students to join in the creative process. The Savin Hill Mural project involved collaborating with young artists to create a mural about the history of Massachusetts Indians. Many of his atmospheric lithographs are in the print department of the Boston Public Library.

Donated by Laura Erlich.
