Item Description
Bermuda Waterfront Serigraph:
Limited edition of 150 copies signed by Morley. Image, 44 ½ x 34 inches.
Born in London in 1931, Malcolm Morley has lived most of his adult life in New York City. He is acknowledged as one the earliest innovators of “super realism,” which developed as a counterpoint to Pop Art in the 1960’s. His first show was in 1964 in NY and in 1984, he was awarded the inaugural Turner Prize, which is organized by the Tate Gallery in London and is Britain’s most publicized art award. Morley shares the Turner with luminaries such as Yoko Ono.
The large, brilliantly colored serigraph shows a busy Bermuda harbor with the SISL and pilot boats accompanying it passing the downtown buildings of Hamilton. Accompanying the print is a copy of Masterworks at 25, published by the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, the gallery of Tom Butterfield. The “collection sprung from the vision of its founder, who believed that through art inspired by Bermuda, one could be better informed about the history, culture, and heritage of the island.”
