This old world Buddhist meditation japa mala from Lotus and Lace Boutique is composed of gilded Thai Buddha beads meant to enhance your meditative practice. The successful bidder will select the amulet of their choice.

Lotus and Lace owner Lindsey tells the story unearthing "a bundle of these exquisite Buddhist beads at a traditional amulet market in Thailand. Each ceramic bead is hand-rolled and molded with a convex (outwardly-protruding) image of the Buddha. The Buddha figure curves around each bead and is abstract in form, but his meditative stance and the flame of enlightenment extending from the top of his head are easily discernible. The ceramic beads were darkened to black by the oxygen-reduction process during firing, then were painted a dark brick red color that has partially worn away, and finally were adorned with 24-carat gold leaf.

The bottom of the mala is embellished with the recipient's choice of Buddha amulet. See photo for selections: 

• oval standing Buddha - signifying his wandering and bestowing blessings (2 inches in length)
• hourglass shape - with seated Buddha in the Bhumisparsa or "Earth-touching" mudra, signifying the union of meditative method and inner wisdom (1.5 inches in length)
• rectangular shape - with the Buddha seated under the Bodhi tree in the Dhyana mudra, symbolizing balance and holistic meditation (1.5 inches in length)

Size and Details:

The is a full-length mala with the standard 108-bead count strung on non-stretch beading wire for long-lasting durability.

The beads are approximately 3/8 inch (1 cm) in diameter.

The inner circumference of the mala loop is 41 inches (104 cm).

The total mala length (measured from top center of the mala) is 21 inches (53 cm) + the 3-bead dangle of 1.5 inches and the additional amulet-of-choice length.

When worn, the mala reaches approximately to the lower torso or hip level, depending on height. It can also be wrapped twice for a shorter, layered look.
