Item Description

You are bidding on a large custom glass pet portrait (5" x 5") by artist Sara Mae of My Glass Pets. https://myglasspets.com/

STEP 1: Cutting the glass. I purchase large sheets of glass, then cut them down into small 3" x 3" squares in my garage (very fancy).

STEP 2: Painting the glass. After meticulously thinking about what details I want to capture, I then quickly brush on a black outline of your furry friend. Next, I carefully go over the drawing with darker strokes and additional details. Now I allow that to dry.

Step 3: Coloring the glass. Technically, we are still in the painting step, but this paint is different. It is a goopy translucent glass paint that doesn't allow me too much control aside from building layers. Now I allow this to dry.

Step 4: Curing the paint. Now that the paint is dry, I cure the paint by introducing the glass into a controlled heat setting (that would be my kitchen stove - again, fancy!) for approximately 30 minutes.

Step 5: Allow the glass to cool.

Step 6: Foiling. I use the tried and true method of stained glass foiling. I use copper black backed foil to outline the piece! Once finished, I apply a goopy layer of flux.

Step 7: Soldering. It is now time for my soldering iron and liquid metal! I also add the jump ring here for hanging.

Step 8: Cleaning the flux off. Now I must wash and scrub the piece to rid it of any unwanted chemicals left from the flux.

Step 9: Patina time! I now apply patina to the zinc frame which oxidizes into a black hue.

Step 10: Clean off residue patina. No one wants that nasty stuff staying on their piece!

Step 11: Add the string.

Step 12: Sign.

Step 13: Photograph.

FINISHED!
