Item Description
Christina is a very happy and joyful eight-year old girl on the Autism spectrum. She enjoys being outdoors riding her scooter, spending time in the ocean and sand, and most of all art. Shortly after losing all speech and receiving an Autism diagnosis in conjunction with aphasia at two years old, Christina has been expressing herself through art. At the young age of two, she used art to stimulate her senses and self soothe just about every day. She used coloring and painting as a way to escape the many challenges she was faced with.
Though she is able to communicate and speak in short sentences today, she continues to use art as an outlet in her daily life. Christina enjoys painting with various sized paint brushes on large surfaces, and has been asked to paint canvasses for several people who have witnessed her unique ability. She also enjoys creating with water colors, colored pencils and markers. Free handed painting is her favorite work of art to create. Christina always picks bright and vibrant colors, creating the perfect abstract look to her art pieces. She never leaves blank white space on whatever she is creating. Rather, she paints and draws what she envisions - vivid colors floating and mixing together beautifully as if they belong together. Christina has a keen ability to make the colors flow in such a way they catch the eye of those who are lucky enough to see her creativity first hand. She constantly chooses colors that complement one another, which results in a soothing and interesting use of her personal artistic ability.
She possesses a gift through her imagination, allowing others to view her visions through her own eyes on the spectrum. She has been given a true gift, is an extremely visual child, and loves to show the world what she sees through her eyes as she beams with pride after completing each of her masterpieces. Our family is overjoyed with her passion and cannot wait to see what she creates as she grows up. It has been an absolute honor and privilege that Christina was given the opportunity to paint a board to benefit Surfers Healing, as they selflessly take so many children to the healing waters to experience what Christina has.
The board is an 8'2" fun gun shaped by Slick and glassed by Brawner.
