Expect the unexpected at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, which encompasses more than 30 acres of breathtaking display gardens, woodlands, and more in the heart of Atlanta. Rare and endangered plants from tropical rain forests and desert regions, along with one of the world's largest permanent orchid displays, are featured in the Fuqua Conservatory and Orchid Center. Other highlights include the Canopy Walk, the largest suspension bridge of its kind in the United States, and an interactive children's garden.
Mary Pat Matheson joined the Atlanta Botanical Garden in 2002 and is now the Garden's president and chief executive officer. She has also overseen the development of Smithgall Woodland Garden, a 185-acre public garden in Gainesville, GA. Mary Pat holds an executive master's of public administration degree from Utah State University. She is a member of the American Horticultural Society's Board of Directors.

- Best time to visit: Spring and early summer for peak bloom in the gardens; fall and early winter for special holiday displays on the grounds and in the conservatories.
