GLENSTONE
Potomac, Maryland

The Experience
Your visit for up to four includes:
- A behind-the-scene gardeners’ view of the Glenstone grounds with Paul Tukey, Chief Sustainability Officer.
- A lunch of organic fare with Paul.
Glenstone (www.glenstone.org) seamlessly blends art, architecture, and the landscape into a serene and contemplative environment to form a unique connection between art and visitor. Glentstone is approximately 20 miles from Washington, D.C., in Potomac, Maryland.
Enjoy a behind-the-scenes gardeners’ view of the grounds with Chief Sustainability Officer Paul Tukey, who has been called “the godfather of the natural landscape movement.” Working with Mr. Tukey, Glenstone successfully transitioned to an all-organic maintenance program for its 200 acres in 2010. This tour, designed exclusively for the AHS, will allow you to learn about organic techniques used to maintain the landscape, and view outdoor sculpture, including works by Ellsworth Kelly, Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Serra, and Jeff Koons. During a lunch of organic fare, Mr. Tukey will share his experience at Glenstone as well as his more than 20 years of work in the field.
Winner of the AHS's Communication Award in 2006, Paul Tukey was the founder of SafeLawns.org, an international coalition of for-profit and non-profit organizations promoting environmentally friendly lawn care and resource conservation. Mr. Tukey authored the best-selling book, The Organic Lawn Care Manual (Storey, 2007) and has been a frequent international lecturer and consultant. He produced an Emmy-nominated documentary film, A Chemical Reaction, about the anti-pesticide movement that has swept across Canada. From 1995 to 2009 he published People, Places & Plants gardening magazine and also hosted, produced, and directed an HGTV show of the same name that aired from 2004 to 2007.
