Item Description

Miami Native Johnny Robles work is approached with a reserved, collective and methodical rationale that’s apparent in his developing collection. Creating from memories and reinterpreting them constantly, Robles’ themes derive inspiration from complex paradigms shaped or changed by nature and nostalgic visions of childhood. The impulse toward story telling in his drawings, paintings, and sculptures is set-off against the immediacy of his precise, compelling imagery. Johnny’s saturated color palette, subject matter, technique and bold themes unfold creating visual conundrums for the viewer and even himself. His attempt to explore new dimensions and forms in his work embody emotive and perceptual associations such as play, interaction, elation and control.

Robles attended the Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy and later the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), from where he received his BFA.

Recalling the echo of memories that marked my own childhood, these memories come from family gathering, tv and films and programs for children. Beneath a surface is very experimental very minimal and taken out echoes of nostalgia. It’s a natural creative process, creating things starting from these memories every bit as much as from current wishes and moods I reinterpret them constantly

He currently lives and works in Miami, FL. 

Johnny's board is one of six boards from Fordistas' The Pop-Up, a collection of Miami artists’ visions reflected on surfboard canvases to raise awareness of autism and benefit Surfers Healing. Each artist engraved their local talent and perspective on a freshly shaped surfboard by industry legend Matt Kechele. The board is a work of art in and of itself, and this is their canvas. Fordistas is a program with roots embedded deeply in South Florida culture, namely the arts. Watch Johnny's board come to life.

Packing, shipping and handling are not included. Boards can be picked up at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel or purchaser can arrange for shipping. Boards will be available for pick up or shipping on, or after, Monday, January 2, 2017.  Boards must be picked up or shipped no later than Friday, January 30, 2017.
