ARTIST STATEMENT
"I find beauty in imperfection, incompleteness and impermanence. It is a beauty of simple things... rustic, worn, and weathered. I spent many years living on the Eastern Mediterranean shores and on Orcas Island. Now I live on sacred Pueblo land in Tesuque, NM. I use a limited earth tone palette, many textured layers, advancing and receding, with marking throughout.
My process is to first lay down layers of paint, pigment, ash, any remnant of nature. Then take it all away.
What remains is a transmission of silence from these ancient lands."
Ann Burgund is a Santa Fe artist known for her serene, multi-layered, textured painting which is reflective of an inner quiet. The viewer is drawn in by the advancing and receding images, personal marking, and by her use of a limited palette of earth tones.
Earlier in her artistic career, Ann won many awards for her work as a film producer on the television series Sesame Street. She produced sixty films for the show, mostly about nature and the environment. Ann has also worked in Hollywood as a creative producer on The Mask, the first photo-real film.
All throughout her career in the media arts, Ann developed her fine art practice. She studied watercolor and acrylic with many teachers including Quincey Anderson, Peggy Zehring, and Robert Burridge. Currently she works in mixed media and cold wax having mentored with Jeane Myers and Rebecca Crowell.
Ann has shown her work in downtown Seattle, Edmonds and Kirkland, WA. In Santa Fe her work is available at City of Mud. Ann donates work to benefit the activities of a variety of charities. Her work has sold to many private collections.
