 The Experience

Your visit for up to eight will include:

  • Admission to Chanticleer.
  • A tour of the gardens and historic Chanticleer house with Bill Thomas, Executive Director, or another member of the Horticulture Staff.
  • A signed copy of the award-winning book, The Art of Gardening.

Located within 30 minutes of Philadelphia, Chanticleer is the former estate of Christine and Adolph Rosengarten, Sr. Mr. Rosengarten was head of the pharmaceutical company Rosengarten and Sons. Much of the floral and garden development has happened since the garden opened to the public in 1993. Originally, the estate was known for its majestic trees and verdant lawns. Today, the garden is a colorful, contemporary study of textures and forms, where foliage trumps flowers and the gardeners lead the design. The staff-made furniture, drinking fountains, fences, gates, and bridges accent the gardens with a personal and sculptural experience. The gardens were the subject of the recently published book, The Art of Gardening, a 2016 American Horticultural Society Book Award winner.

Executive Director Bill Thomas, graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. and M.S. in Ornamental Horticulture. For 26 years Bill worked at Longwood Gardens leading the education, research, and production efforts. In 2003, Bill arrived at Chanticleer, the 35-acre internationally acclaimed pleasure garden outside of Philadelphia where he leads the staff in developing what has been called the most romantic, imaginative, and exciting public garden in America.
