FALLINGWATER

Mill Run, PA

The Experience

Your Visit for up to four will include:

  • A guided house tour and a private landscape tour of the Fallingwater grounds with landscape architect, Melissa Marshall.
  • Lunch at the Fallingwater Café, located on site in the Fallingwater Visitor Center.

A living, breathing house in perfect harmony with its setting, Fallingwater is one of the greatest architectural triumphs of our time.  Start your experience with a guided tour of the last great Frank Lloyd Wright house with its original setting, furnishings and artwork intact. Then join host Missy Marshall for a private tour of the naturalistic landscape that surrounds Fallingwater. Nestled in the Bear Run Nature Preserve, the grounds provide a breathtaking variety of plant life set in a most unique environment. Lunch will be provided at the Fallingwater Café, which serves delicious homemade soups, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. Pack your hiking boots -- after the tour of the house and grounds are complete, you’ll want to explore the trails of the nearby Ohiopyle State Park.

Melissa R. Marshall, FASLA, is the principal designer for the award winning firm MTR Landscape Architects, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their many exceptional projects include Fallingwater, the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens in the Arboretum at Penn State, Tower Hill Botanic Garden and many projects over 30 years at the Missouri Botanical Garden (MBG). She also designed the Herb Garden at Inniswood and her design for the Enabling Garden at the Chicago Botanic Garden was recognized with the American Association of Museums’ 2000 Accessibility Award. Missy received her B.A. in art from Smith College and a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of design in 1975. Ms. Marshall was recognized as an ASLA Fellow in 2013 and is a past AHS board member.

Item Special Note

  • Best time to visit: There are many fun and interesting things to do just a short distance from Fallingwater. Another very special Frank Lloyd Wright house, Kentuck Knob, is nearby and available to tour. It is a smaller and more intimate house that is warm and lovely, and has an interesting collection of modern sculpture on the grounds. Visitors flock to the Laurel Highlands year-round to enjoy one of the most beautiful natural environments in the Eastern United States. Fall is extremely popular when the foliage puts on a brilliant display, or plan your visit in early July to soak in the native rhododendrons in bloom.
  • Limitations/Conditions: Tour to be arranged at a mutually agreeable time subject to host’s availability by October 31, 2017. Fallingwater is a popular destination; please plan your trip well in advance.
