- Picnic lunch with Tom overlooking the Potomac River.
- A River Farm water color print as a memento of your visit.
Join the American Horticultural Society’s Executive Director, Tom Underwood, for a very special tour and picnic lunch for up to four people. Once part of one of George Washington’s original five farms, River Farm comprises 25 historic and picturesque acres overlooking the Potomac River just south of Washington, D.C. The group will stroll through formal and informal gardens, hear about the history of the property, observe the biodiversity and beauty of the Andre Bluemel Meadow, admire the venerable Osage orange tree, and enjoy our Children`s Garden.
A delicious picnic lunch will be the perfect start or end for a very unique garden experience. As a remembrance of your visit, you will be able to take a bit of River Farm home with you in the form of a water color print by noted local artist Donna Sturm.
Tom joined the AHS staff in 2002 and has served as Executive Director since 2008. He draws on over 35 years experience in the horticulture industry in his work with the AHS. Prior to joining the Society’s staff, Tom spent 20 years with the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Tom has a B.S. Degree in Ornamental Horticulture from California Polytechnic State University and a Masters Degree in Science Education from the University of Central Florida. An educator at heart, much of Tom’s career has centered around a passion for learning and for sharing the joys and discoveries of gardening.
