Item Description

Lynn Davis' photographs stop your mind. That's why they've been featured in Lion's Roar over the years. The January 2008 issue includes several of her works and profiles Ms. Davis' contemplative approach and ability to capture "the power, mystery and sacredness of the world's ancient monuments."

With an insight cultivated by a longtime Buddhist practice, she has imbued her images with a quality beyond the aesthetic--offering a palpable experience of permanence and impermanence. She works in black and white and prints large after meticulous work in the dark room. The result is magnificent. The stupa (sacred burial monument) captured in this photograph is in the ancient Burmese capital of Pagan.

Lynn Davis has explored the world in search of the greatest universal sites, both man-made and natural. Davis's photographs have been exhibited internationally and collected widely. Her work appears in many museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum, and at the Edwin Houk Gallery on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
