Summer Jazz Workshop '17 Concert - Friday, July 21st @ 7pm
Celebrating its 25th Season, the Summer Jazz Workshop is the place to be - the pre-eminent and longest running summer jazz program in the tri-state area! Dates are to be determined, but will be held one week in July.
Summer Jazz Workshop '17 is excited to be heading north to Canton, CT for its second season. In addition to extensive small ensemble work focusing on improvisation, the program also features theory, arranging, lessons, and master classes with guest jazz recording artists, a music business seminar hosted by the faculty, and a composers’ forum.
The Summer Jazz Workshop '17 faculty, all world-class musicians/educators, includes co-founders jazz saxophonist John Mastroianni (2014 CT Teacher of the Year and Director of Bands at Canton High School), and jazz pianist Joyce DiCamillo, who are joined on the faculty by Dave Santoro, bass; Thierry Arpino, drums; Rich Goldstein, guitar; Tony Kadleck, trumpet; and Bruce Eidem, trombone.
DiCamillo says:
"Over the years, our workshops have been filled with talented students - some who already love jazz and others for whom it is a newly experienced pleasure. The stellar faculty truly elevates this program - excellence on the bandstand doesn't always translate to skill as a music educator, but we are proud to offer excellent performers (all first-call players on the world stage) who are also the finest educators -putting the student first, and giving 110% of themselves in a nurturing and non-competitive environment."
Instrumentalists (saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, guitar and drums) who participate in their school music programs or take private lessons are considered pre-authorized to attend the program. Those who do not fit these criteria may be asked to audition.
