Michael Teich is a chef with more than 16 years of experience in Los Angeles’ most sought after restaurants. Overseeing the kitchen at The Water Grill, Executive Chef Michael Teich grew up watching chefs like Jacques Pepin, Julia Child and Madeleine Kamman and started experimenting in the kitchen at an early age. As a teen he found his first love in baseball, but was always cooking for teammates and friends, reading cookbooks and culinary magazines between games. A former professional baseball player, Teich’s career with the Pittsburgh Pirates segued to his second, albeit equal passion, cooking.
Deeply inspired by Thomas Keller and the French Laundry cookbook, Teich was drawn to the level of execution and elegance of the cuisine, which both fascinated, and encouraged him to enroll in the Culinary School of the Art Institute in Santa Monica. Two weeks after his first class, he began working in a restaurant and has been cooking ever since. Heading the kitchen at restaurants such as the Axe in Venice, Cleo in Hollywood, Corporate Chef for SBE, Chef/Partner at The Wallace, to his current position as the Executive Chef of the seafood focused Water Grill. Chef Teich is currently collaborating on new concept from Kings Seafood Company that will be opening in Santa Monica in the spring of 2017.
After decades in the industry, Michael continues to draw inspiration from his passion for food, and his family. His wife Carol, has a very strong background in the hospitality industry. They are each other’s biggest fans in and out of the restaurant and are dedicated to supporting each other. Together, Carol and Michael have a 7 year old son Marco, and are awaiting the birth of their daughter. They reside in Playa del Rey, where you can find them cooking for friends and family or at the beach when they are not at the restaurants.
