From the novice learner to someone developing mastery, Core Concepts in Mindful Eating will help you be more effective at teaching mindful eating to anyone.
This CPE book has three sections. Section ONE will focus on engaging in knowledge regarding what is non-judgment, meditation, self-kindness. Section TWO will build on our learning of non-judgment, meditation and self-kindness and allow the mind to focuses and remain present with sensory/physical, cognitive/thought and emotional/feelings Section THREE offers you a change to teach the above six skills to your clients. You will explore tools and techniques that will help you communicate mindful eating in ways that does not promote restrictive eating (aka dieting). You will also learn how to counter self-harming behaviors and actions by offering some effective mindfulness tools with your clients. Each chapter will help you:
- Empathize -- "being with" the problem
- Reflection -- seeing the key issue
- Providing a Practice/Activity for the client
- Going deeper -- debriefing an activity using some typical counseling scenarios
Through out the book, you will be offered practical counseling options that could incorporate Mindful Eating.

Megrette Fletcher is a cofounder of The Center for Mindful Eating and has served many positions including the 2013-2016 President. She is a public speaker and author of a number of books, including Discover Mindful Eating for Kids, Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat with Diabeteswith Michelle MD, Discover Mindful Eating: A resource of handouts for health professionals,with Frederick Burggraf. Megrette has also crafted detailed training for both the consumer and professional including, Am I Hungry: Diabetes, The Before, During and After the Bite Workshop, and The Core Concepts of Mindful Eatingonline training. She is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator who has worked at an area hospital for over 16 years.
Megrette’s curious name means “little Margaret” and seems to have French origins. Unfortunately, she is not a native speaker but she is an avid cyclist, passable cook, and a terrible bowler. She lives in New Hampshire with her two and four-legged family. She has maintained a daily meditation practice since 1999 when she began studying Buddhism as part of the Triratna Buddhist Order.
