Local artist, Pam J. Nelson (1937-2011) maintained her home studio and gallery in Gales Ferry. She received her art training at the UConn, and numerous classes and workshops. She taught watercolor at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London for seventeen years and private classes in her home studio. A frequent juror in regional shows including the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, Nelson was an elected artist member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, Connecticut Woman Artist, New Haven Paint and Clay Club, Lyme Art Association, Mystic Arts Center, Arts and Crafts Association of Meriden and the Monotype Guild of New England. She exhibited at UConn Jorgensen Art Gallery, The Connecticut Artist show at Slater Museum, Hoxie Gallery in Westerly, RI, Norwich Arts Council, Essex Art Association, Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and the Connecticut River Museum in Essex.
