Michael Colford, Director of Library Services will lead a tour (with help from his curatorial friends) of the gorgeous art and architecture of the landmark McKim Building. You will see rare books and manuscripts, murals painted by Edwin Abbey and John Singer Sargent, and Boston's best-kept secret, the library's gorgeous courtyard. Then, step behind the curtain and see what goes on in the stacks.
Your tour will include tea service at the Courtyard Restaurant . Overlooking the beautiful Italianate courtyard in the Boston Public Library's historic McKim building, The Courtyard Restaurant is steeped in history and offers a delightful Afternoon Tea Service.
The Boston Public Library boasts the second largest collection in the United State behind the Library of Congress. At over 1 million square feet, the Central Library in Copley Square has a labyrinth of closed stacks containing a world-class research collection. You will experience the library from a perspective the public don't ever get to see! The tour will be capped off by an elegant tea in the Courtyard Restaurant. Founded in 1848, the Boston Public Library is the first, municipally-funded library in the country. Enjoy a bit of history and this exclusive experience for lovers of books, art, architecture or history.

This tour can be offered on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday afternoon and will run approximately 2.5 hours. Date to be arranged with Michael Colford, Director of Library Services.
