Secretariats Universal Horse ID photo from Pinkertons New York Racing Security Service, Inc. certified and verified on 07/04/1972. I This photo card includes front and side view photos and photos of his chestnuts on the front and on the back is all of his information including tattoo number, owner and trainers. A truly remarkable piece of history.
Thoroughbred racehorses are identified by color, markings, lip tattoo and night eyes or "chestnuts," which are callouses on the body of a horse, found on the inner side of the leg above the knee on the foreleg and, if present, below the hock on the hind leg. Chestnuts vary in size and shape and are sometimes compared to the fingerprints in humans.
