Item Description
Black & White Photograph on metallic paper mounted to 1/4” acrylic 24”x24” ready to hang.
This piece was made at Blowing Rocks Preserve in Jupiter, FL.This image is what is known as a long exposure. Once I have composed and focused the frame extremely dark filters are attached to the lens in order to limit the amount of light that can enter the camera. Using these filters enables the photographer to utilize extremely long exposure times. In this case the camera sat open and “seeing” for 8 minutes. The result of such a long exposure is that the clouds streak and blur as they blow across the sky. Water settles perfectly flat and, takes on the milky tones seen here. An exposure of this kind is not just a fraction of a second in time as most photographs are rather, it’s an accumulation of time. A movie viewed in a single frame. This technique is perfectly suited to a scene like this where there are static elements which contrast so beautifully with the movement of sky and sea.
