Item Description
A Toby Jug - also sometimes known as a Fillpot - is a pottery jug in the form of a seated person, or the head of a recognizable person. This Lenox pitcher is titled "William Penn Land Treaty Commemorative" and most likely dates from 1930-1953. The lovely ivory colored porcelain piece shows no signs of wear, chips, or cracks.
The front of the pitcher portrays the head and torso of William Penn (who resembles the venerable gentleman on the Quaker Oats box); the handle shows the head of a Native American chief. The pitcher is approximately 7" high and 5" round at the base.
