The American Fisherman’s Guide – 1952 -A fresh water fishing handbook, to which dozens of authorities on various aspects have made special contributions. In a skilful job of selection and editing, Mr. Bueno has chosen lively anecdotal material, sound factual data, and practical how-to-do-it instruction to meet the needs of those amateurs-to-experts who master some of their craft from the vantage point of the home fireside. From a chapter on the structure of fishes on to facts about how they live, the kinds of water, food, shelter, the life cycles -- all with direct bearing on lures and methods under varying conditions. Then on to the varied techniques,-netting, spearing, bait fishing, still fishing, trolling, bait casting, fly casting, spinning, etc. Each to his own love (though the recurrent stress is on the importance of varying the means to the circumstances). There's a good deal about streams- about equipment- about fishing from a boat or from shore. Then the main body of the book deals with what you can catch and how in fresh water- with some marginal notes on smelt, shad, salmon and other fish that change from fresh to salt and back. Finally, a section on the why- as well as the how- of fishing. A book for all ages- the one basic requirement is enthusiasm for the sport.
