Item Description
Curt Schilling, pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, autographed this 2008 Upper Deck sports card.
Though he had a World Series ring and plenty of pitching honors under his belt before he arrived in Boston, Schilling is probably best known for his first season with the Sox, 2004, during which he won the critical sixth game in the playoffs and went on to win Game Two of the World Series.
In both post-season games, Schilling's sock became bloodied as he pitched - the result of sutures used to stablize the tendons in his ankle. The blood-soaked sock from the World Series is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame; the sock from the playoff game sold at auction for more than $90,000.
The 2004 world championship was the first for the Red Sox since 1918. Schilling went on to pitch in the 2007 post-season during which the Sox also won the World Series.
The card is preserved in a hard-plastic case.
