Item Description

Fly high for one hour in this 1941 biplane with local pilot and South Central College alum David L. Bates. Restored over a period of 15 years, the plane is owned by his father, David J. Bates, and was the 2001 Antique Airplane Association Grand Champion. Originally designed as a U.S. Navy fighter trainer, the plane is acrobat-certified. Helmet and goggles are provided - you'll need them because you'll be riding in an open cockpit and flying between 100-200 mph. To get a feeling for what it will be like, watch the Youtube video David L. made.  Search for: 450 Stearman Cockpit 2011. Flexible date/time from mid summer through September, to be arranged with the Bates'. Plan two hours for this one hour ride so you can take it all in.
