Item Description
Croquet at Meadowood: Instruction, Play and Luncheon at the Grill, for 6 people
For many, the term "croquet" evokes memories of whacking weathered wooden balls over bumpy backyard terrain. But that old childhood pastime is nothing like the adult game played at Meadowood. The resort's two championship croquet lawns sport immaculately manicured grass resembling putting greens, where shots roll as smoothly as balls on a billiards table.
For 6 lucky winners, instruction begins with mallet grips and swings, an explanation of the rules, and strategies for winning. Croquet is a game of strategy, not unlike chess, in that you have to look and plan ahead. The wickets used are an eighth of an inch larger than the ball, so it is a game of precision, as well. The game taught by Meadowood instructors is California Golf Croquet, a simplified rendition of the tournament version. It's simple enough that any guest from seven to seventy can master the basics in a single lesson.
Lessons generally last one hour, and a second hour provides guests ample time to play several 20-minute rounds. Any size team -- from couples enjoying a romantic weekend getaway, to college friends reuniting, to generations celebrating a family reunion -- can enjoy an afternoon in whites.
After your play, adjourn to The Grill at Meadowood for lunch and toast your success. The Grill presents a daily menu featuring ingredients fresh from the Meadowood garden, and the setting is over-the-top spectacular.
