Buy A Chromebook for Sequoyah Elementary School!
As we continue to grow in our skills and as the landscape of public education changes, Sequoyah Elementary School wants to stay one step ahead. One way we can do that is by incorporating more technology into our classrooms. Last year, we have purchased 130 Chromebooks for student use in classrooms using coupon book money. The PTA purchased more Chromebooks to bring the fifth grade to one-to-one. These Chromebooks were implemented right before winter break and it is going great! This request is for you to help Sequoyah Elementary School purchase more Chromebooks. The goal is to be one-to-one in the intermediate grades (3-5) and to have two class-sets in the primary grades (K-2) in two to three years. Sequoyah Elementary School is hopeful the following bullet points will help frame the Chromebook implementation plan and help answer any questions you may have about Chromebooks.
• We are participating in a trend across the district and the country in using Chromebooks in education.
• Utilizing technology in the classroom is not device specific. Chromebooks are simply the best economic decision for our school. Chromebooks and Mac computers probably have the same useful life. However, Chromebooks are $250 each and Mac computers are $1,000 each.
• While they are shaped like laptops, Chromebooks are not computers but function more like your cell phone. This means they will not require the constant attention of a technician, the way our Mac computers do.
• When we receive Chromebooks, they are already imaged and ready to use and are secure.
• Our wireless network has been tested and in most parts of the building we can handle significantly more devices connected simultaneously.
• Knox County Schools has already trained three members of our faculty in using Chromebooks, Mr. Adcock, Mr. McDaniel and Mrs. Clark.
• The faculty was trained at our December 1st Faculty Meeting as well as during one grade level meeting at the end of the year on using Chromebooks.
