This quick wine country getaway is the perfect cure for your mid-winter blues or post-election stress.
Hans Fahden Winery and Calistoga Wine Tours will take you and up to 7 friends as locals on a day-long tour and tasting of some of the finest vineyards in northern Napa Valley. Your host, Eric Mogensen, descendant of a long line of Napa winemakers and the nephew of Mid-Pen Assistant Head Heidi Schiessler, will meet you at the Hans Fahden Winery in a luxury vehicle and take you to two boutique wineries, where you will meet and drink wines with the winemaker and/or owner of each winery. Your final tasting experience will include a private estate tour, including the volcanic tufa cave, hillside vineyards and sunset tasting at Hans Fahden Vineyards, which is uniquely adjacent to Diamond Creek, Knights Valley and Calistoga AVA’s, in the Mayacamas Mountains above Calistoga.
Don’t forget your toothbrush, because you’ll be staying the night in the exquisite Hans Fahden Stone Tree Cottage. This two-bedroom home sleeps four and offers a private and peaceful setting, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The main bedroom is furnished with a king-sized bed and has an ensuite bathroom with shower, spacious spa tub, and a wrap-around view of the gardens outside. The second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, and a generous bathroom with a shower is just down the hall.
In the evening, head to one of the many nearby restaurants in Calistoga or stay in and whip up dinner in the newly remodeled, contemporary kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need, including a Keurig coffee maker and a well-stocked pantry with kitchen staples.
In the morning, before returning to the bustle of the city, enjoy breakfast on the large flagstone patio and a stroll along the paved walking paths that weave through the property or take a more strenuous hike on one of the many trails nearby.
