George Vranesh was born in 1926 in Hibbing, Minnesota. He relocated to New York City in 1955 and dedicated his life to an art career, studying and training with a number of prestigious teachers in New York. During the 1960s, George spent five summers aboard a salmon cannery ship that traveled from Seattle to the Aleutian Islands and Bering Sea. The experience was a significant source of inspiration for his paintings and ideas about art. He had a major exhibit in 1971 at the Newport Art Museum, debuting several of his monumental abstract landscapes know as the "Alaskan Horizon" works. Vranesh passed away in July 2014, leaving behind a unique body of work spanning six decades.
