Item Description

This is a wonderful selection of interesting, affordable great value wines.

Rivera IL Falcone Riserva 2004, Puglia, Italy

Wine Advocate 93:

The estate’s top-of-the-line 2004 Il Falcone Riserva is 70% Nero di Troia and 30% Montepulciano that spent 12 months in French oak. In this vintage, the Falcone Riserva is awesome. Layers of earthiness, new leather, plums, black cherries and herbs emerge in stunning style as this full-bodied, richly-textured wine shows off its qualities. The wine possesses more than enough density to balance the tannins all the way through to the long finish, where a blast of melted road tar provides the final exclamation point. Simply put, this is a compelling wine from Rivera and certainly among the handful of truly important wines being made today in Puglia.

Chateau Lamothe-Bergeron 2009, Haut Medoc, Bordeaux, France

Wine Advocate 91:

The Lamothe Bergeron has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow, dried orange peel and a touch of cedar. Good definition and lift. The palate is medium-bodied with very good, natural acidity, very refined with a healthy touch of austerity on the finish that lends freshness and vitality. Very fine.

Ramos Pinto Collection 2007, Douro, Portugal

Wine Advocate 90:

Continuing the winery’s tradition of blending quintas, this is a vineyard blend from the winery’s Quinta do Bom Retiro vineyards and its Douro Superior property, Quinta de Ervamoira. It is a grape blend of Touriga Nacional (30%), Touriga Franca (30%) and a field blend for the rest. This is a very nice performance, elegant and refined, but with a very obvious backbone. More intense, deeper and lusher than the regular Tinto.

Naverán Cava Brut Vintage 2010, Cava, Penedès, Spain
Wine Advocate 90:

The 2010 Cava Brut Vintage is a blend of 50% Xarello, 30% Macabeu and 20% Parellada grown at 400 meters and aged for 18 months on its lees. It has a vigorous mousse in the glass, while the nose is crisp and well-defined with attractive notes of white peach and honeysuckle. The palate is taut and crisp with a keen citric thread that leads to a fresh, green apple and apricot-tinged finish. This is good Cava at a great price.)

Daou Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, San Luis Obispo, California, USA

Wine Advocate 90:

I think even a step up over the killer 2013, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is loaded with notions of black raspberry, cassis, spice and licorice. It is an inky colored, ripe and voluptuous effort that has no hard edges, tons of fruit, and impressive notes of plums, licorice and smoked herbs. This cuvee comes from a number of sites throughout the appellation. It will have an easy 10-15 years of longevity.

Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir Calvert Vineyard 2006, Central Otago, New Zealand

Wine Advocate 92:

The 2006 Calvert Vineyard Pinot Noir is 100% de-stemmed and spent 15 months in French barriques, one-third new. Slightly muffled at first on the nose with touches of autumn leaves and dark chocolate, it gained clarity in the glass whilst the palate is imbued with lovely, silky tannins with a certain delicacy about it. Notes of wild strawberry, a hint of dark chocolate with a taut but refined off-dry finish.
