Item Description
45 acres Garden In The Woods contains New Englands largest collection of native plants.
We offer guided tours of Garden in the Woods for adults and children. Cart tours may be arranged for those needing mobility assistance. Tours are led by our knowledgeable volunteer Garden Guides. And you can also purchase a box lunch when you arrive.
This garden was started in 1931 by Will Curtis and was joined on the adventure in 1933 by William Stiles.
Things to do when you visit
- Follow the main Curtis Path over hills, through deep woods, and along the edges of bogs, a brook, and a pond, where you can spot turtles, frogs, and other water creatures.
- Visit the Idea Garden, with its green roof and edible native garden that includes a small fruit orchard.
- Experience the New England Rare Plant Garden to see plants you are unlikely to see anywhere else.
- Pick up scavenger hunt sheets for children of different ages at the Garden Shop, and challenge the whole family to use all their senses as they explore the Garden. The Garden Shop also offers eco-friendly games, toys, children’s clothing, and books as well as snacks and drinks.
