Item Description

Poliana Danila is a landscape designer who is turning into a fiber artist, making one-of-a-kind handwoven jewelry. Her first inspiration was her grandmother, Ioana, an avid weaver who used a big floor loom to make unique tapestries such as blankets, wall hangings, rugs, and floors rugs. After taking weaving classes with different well-known fiber artists, Poliana started to weave in 2015. Her weaving pieces are inspired from landscape, modern art and architecture, South American cultures, Native American clothes and much more. Her threads (silk, linen, hemp, banana, nettle, cotton, viscose, paper, wool and hand dyed fibers) are mostly a selection of sustainable and fair trade yarn.

After the birth of her second child, Poliana took a break from designing gardens to raise her two daughters. That’s when she started to hand stitch toys and bags for them. Her children brought back the awareness of fibers in Poliana's life and how textiles are one of the first things to embrace you when you enter this world. Although Waldorf came later in her life, Poliana was raising her first daughter using the Waldorf parenting philosophy, not knowing that this philosophy was out there. When her daughter turned 15 months old, a friend told her about a Waldorf school in Tarrytown and about Green Meadow. It is then that Poliana realized that she wasn't alone, that there are people who share her values in raising kids. Her love for the Waldorf philosophy started just right there, and still continues.
