About the Artist:

“The idea for a bear starts with the person who will receive it, even if we don’t know them. Sometimes it starts with a color or a feeling such as playful, sweet or even impish. We use that impression to pick the fabric and bow including colors, prints and textures. In this case we had a theme, the important work being done at Wildlife SOS.  Since the item was a bear, we knew that we wanted the print to incorporate elephants. After searching we found the perfect print and then pick the coordinating colors. Hopefully, when the winning bidder holds their new bear, they will see and feel how much time, attention and love went into making it.

"We are a mother/daughter team who lives just outside of Philadelphia, Pa., USA.   My Mother, Diane does all of the sewing and stuffing of the bear. I pick and coordinate all of the fabrics including the bows. It’s always exciting to see the bear take shape throughout the process.  We started making bears about 15 years ago when we needed a birthday present for a little girl. Since then we have made over 100 bears mostly as gifts for birthdays and new babies. However, we have had the opportunity to give them as weddings and get well presents. Each bear is handmade with the recipient in mind, even when we don’t know them personally. We enjoy getting to see the happiness and joy the bear brings to the person who receives them.”
