This certificate is for one ticket to Ride With The Engineer on the Nevada Northern Railway, National Historic Landmark!
Get "front and center" for a journey to the past. Enjoy a locomotive ride-along with the engineer and the fireman in the cab of a steam locomotive or vintage diesel engine as we head up toward the Old Ruth Mining District from the East Ely yard. See the railroad as very few visitors ever have the chance to see. You will be able to see the track ahead and watch the fireman shovel a ton or more of coal on the trip.
The track for the Nevada Northern Railway was laid over a century ago, connecting one of the largest copper mines in North America to the Transcontinental routes to the North. Today, several of the original steam locomotives that were ordered and delivered new to the railroad over a century ago are still in operation. The Nevada Northern Railway is the best-preserved example of a standard-gauge short-line left in North America.
Acclaimed as the best preserved and most original example of an American railroad facility. Passenger train rides operate on the original main line, many behind an original working steam engine.
Item Special Note
Must call ahead for reservations. Requires gloves, sturdy shoes or boots, long sleeve shirt and long pants (cotton. wool, leather - no synthetics). The cab of historic locomotives are hot and noisy. They were not designed with visitors in mind. There are no restrooms, seats, or handicap accommodations in the cab. This is for able-bodied adults only. The cabs can accommodate only 1-2 visitors, age 12 and up.
