This piece was inspired by my appreciation for antique Mexican retablos. I'm charmed by their combination of reverence with an often naive style. I painted this in the same vein on a wood panel using glazes, acrylics, and oils. The paper used at the bottom is from a very old handwritten recipe book I found at an antique fair. This piece is very much about my love for animals.
My paintings and mixed media pieces are an expression of my inner life and what interests me. It is important to me that each piece is intriguing, yet also evokes feelings of peacefulness and balance.
My creative process is a relationship between myself, imagination, and the materials. I do very little planning and allow each piece to emerge.
