Item Description
"Peanut" Black and white Original, pencil on paper,
From the artist about Peanut:
"Peanut is one of my all time favourite elephants! She was rescued by Wildlife SOS as part of the beloved Nut Herd: Peanut, Walnut, Macadamia Nut and Coconut. As far as elephants go, she is about the most photogenic elephant I have ever seen! It was my great pleasure to meet Peanut in person in March 2016 when Arte for Elephants went to Wildlife SOS to volunteer and see, first hand, the wonderful existence that these formerly abused elephants enjoy at the sanctuary."

About the Artist:
Acclaimed Artist and Animal Activist Thyra Rutter studied fine art at the prestigious Otis College of Fine Art and Design in Los Angeles. Her earliest works reveal a fascination with ancient Celtic artwork and rounded, colorful forms. After learning, later in life, that her biological mother, Maureen, had been a gifted fine artist, skilled at drawing animals, Thyra reconnected with her lifelong love of animals and began drawing elephants. In 2015 she founded Arte for Elephants, a business aimed at selling fine arts and crafts to raise money for existing elephant charities around the globe. To date Arte for Elephants has generated nearly $16K in funds for elephant projects working toward conservation and ethical treatment for both wild and captive elephants. Her work is held in private collections and can be seen adorning several book covers by the wildly popular transgressive poet, Max Mundan.
Artist Statement:
"Being an artist, to me, is about creating positive, compassionate change through altering the perception of the viewer. Whether that change is in an appreciation for color, form or complexity, or through connection with the subject, I hope to engage a person in a way that, perhaps they have never engaged before. People should be able to look at my work and see something of a shared existence between themselves and the subject, be that human or animal."
