Donald Hess began collecting art in 1966. His collecting style is a personal endeavor driven by passion rather then monetary investment or current trends. He develops a close dialogue with an artist to better understand what drives him or her to create and he carefully limits his focus as a collector to 20 living artists whose work he faithfully supports long term. As is eveident by the caliber of the collection, he collects with the uncanny ability to acquire works by lesser known artists who often go on to become well known and respected in their disciplines. His typical commitment to an artist span decades and various stages of his career.

Winning bidders located in Northern California may pick up their items at Stone Bridge School in Napa from Tuesday, March 28 to Tuesday, April 4, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Items not picked up by April 4 will be mailed to the winning bidder, and purchaser is responsible for shipping and insurance costs. (Gift cards and gift certificates ship for free.)
Items purchased by bidders residing outside of Northern California will be shipped automatically on or around Tuesday, March 28, unless you tell us that you do wish to pick up your item. Purchaser is responsible for shipping and insurance costs. (Gift cards and gift certificates ship for free.) Please contact us at sbspcauction@gmail.com by March 27 if you plan to pick up.
