Fairburn Avenue Elementary School Special Funding Opportunity!
We need your help to revamp our play structure.
A vital part of elementary school education is time spent on the playground. Central to this is a well-designed play structure. Kids use these structures to improve their strength, balance, climbing skills, and coordination every day during school recess.
Unfortunately, our current play structure is not safe for kids under seven. This means that our kindergartners and first and second grade students don’t get to play on it—at all. To rectify this we have been working with the company that manufactured the structure to retrofit it. The plan is to replace a number of the high overhead ladders and to add slides, tubes, and stepping pads to turn it into a structure that can be enjoyed by the entire school.
We are also taking this opportunity to address another nagging issue: the lack of shade on the playground. The Southern California sun is hot at mid-day and over-exposure to UV rays is not healthy. To address this we are also planning to add an awning over the play structure, which will provide much needed shade.
Together, these two projects will cost $70,000. We have secured some very generous starter funding from one familiy with children in the school. However, we are soliciting help from the our larger Fairburn community. It’s a great opportunity to support your local school! Donations of $50 to $1,000 or more would be greatly appreciated!
