OUR STORY
Since earning a culinary certificate from Washburne Trade School, Chef Christine McCabe has worked all around Chicago including time at Gabriel’s, Charlie Trotter’s, Sugar: A Dessert Bar, Carnivale, Epic and Park Grill. While at Sugar she was named Bon Appetit Magazine’s 2005 Pastry Chef of the Year. In 2012, after helping launch Glazed and Infused, Christine was looking to open her own place. She found an alley spot in Lincoln Park which she intended to use as a production kitchen for another location that couldn’t support its own kitchen. While she was waiting for that other spot to open she decided to put in a window and sell sweets. Interurban opened for business in November of 2012. Shortly after Christine noticed that there was shortage of lunch spots in the area and added lunch offerings to her menu. The other location never opened and Interurban stands now as Chicago’s only alley cafe and pastry shop.
