Item Description
This knife is very sharp and fully functional. Please handle with care. The blade was hand forged by EWS’ blacksmithing artist in residence Mark Eichinger-Wiese (Mr E-W). The “Damascus” or pattern welded billet was purchased. The billet is in a “ladder” pattern.
The full tang knife has a 5 1/2 inch blade with 4 ½ inch handle with an overall 10” length. The billet of pattern welded “Damascus” consisting of approximately 350 forge welded alternating layers of 1095 and 15N20 high carbon steel. The handle pin laminates are from the same billet.
The scales (handle sides) are of stabilized Brazilian Ipe. The knife block is of Oak.
Hand forged pattern welded blades are valued by collectors with blades selling in the high hundreds to many thousands dollars. This blade forging represents many hours of work.
Thank you, EWS Faculty & Parent, Mr. E-W!
Item Special Note
Knife care:
- If necessary, wash and dry your knife by hand. The knife is NOT dishwasher safe as the handle is wood. The steel is NOT stainless and will rust if left wet.
- A normal knife steel should be used to keep the knife sharp.
- A very light coating of vegetable oil will help keep the knife from rusting.
